Google Tag Manager MCP server

SeePM is a Google Tag Manager MCP server: it connects your GTM containers to Claude, ChatGPT and any other MCP client, using your Google sign-in. Audit the live container, edit tags in a draft workspace and publish a version with a rollback point. It is off until an admin turns it on, and it is on paid plans only.

Off by default. An admin of your SeePM organization turns Tag Manager on. Publishing and deleting need a second switch.

What you can ask

Plain-language requests, the way you would ask a colleague. The label says which kind of work it is.

  • Audit the live container. Is anything broken or duplicated?Container check
  • Is the Google Ads conversion tag set up and firing on purchase?Conversion tracking audit
  • What is in the draft that is not live yet?Draft vs live
  • Pause the old Meta pixel tag in a new workspace.Change
  • Publish this version, and tell me how to roll back.Publish

What it can read and change

As of October 2026, SeePM's Google Tag Manager MCP has 40+ tools that read and change, plus a governed request for anything the other tools do not cover.

Reads

Live containerthe whole live version in one call, versions, environments
Workspacetags, triggers, variables, folders, templates, built-in variables, workspace status, preview

Changes

Draftcreate and update tags, triggers, variables and folders, pause or activate tags, revert, sync
Versionscreate a version, publish it
Deletetags, triggers, variables, folders

Tool total from SeePM's tool manifest on October 30, 2026, rounded down to the nearest 5. The generic request is classified per call: a read stays a read, and a write is checked like any other change.

How changes stay safe

  • You decide who changes what. Each tool has a risk level, and your organization sets each level to auto, ask or deny per role. A change on "ask" waits in the approvals queue until a leader of the client or an admin approves it.
  • You can preview a change first: Tag Manager tools take a dry run where the API supports it, and changes go to a draft workspace before any version is published.
  • A change that asks to go past a platform safety limit (a large budget jump, for example) always waits for a person, admins included.
  • A change runs once. After it runs, the server reads the object back and SeePM shows what the platform now has. If that differs from what you asked, SeePM says so and does not send the change again.
  • Off by default. An admin turns Tag Manager on for the organization.
  • Publishing and deleting need a second switch, "Allow publishing and deletes", for every role, admins included.
  • Only leaders and admins can make changes. A publish reports the previous live version as the rollback point.
  • Audits start with one call that reads the whole live container.

GTM login

Your Google sign-in, plus Tag Manager permissions you allow separately with "Allow Tag Manager". SeePM submitted these permissions to Google for verification on October 23, 2026. You can disconnect it from Settings at any time. If a client has only one GTM account, SeePM uses it without you naming it.

Price

Paid plans only: Starter, $20 USD a month, or Plus, $100 USD a month. An admin turns it on. Claude and ChatGPT bill their own plans.

Questions

Why is it off by default?

A tag change alters what fires on the client's site, and with it the measurement for every ad platform. An admin decides whether the organization uses it.

Can it publish on its own?

Only if an admin has turned on "Allow publishing and deletes", and only for leaders and admins. Changes go to a draft workspace first.

Is the GTM MCP free?

No. Tag Manager is on paid plans only.

Does the Google Tag Manager MCP work with ChatGPT?

Yes. Add SeePM as a connector in ChatGPT; connectors need Developer mode, which comes with the Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu plans. Codex works from the terminal.
